Today it is a trend that allows people to travel in an agile and free way, discovering alternatives to the classic itineraries. Bike trips in a territory like ours allow you to visit the best-known places of interest as well as more fascinating and lesser-known landmarks, often in closer contact with nature.

There is no shortage of cycling routes in Trieste for bike holidays: the Giordano Cottur cycle and pedestrian path, the TBT (the Trieste by Trail), and the unpaved Gemina trail are the famous routes, which we discussed in a previous article.

Today we want to go beyond the territory of Trieste and consider our beautiful city as a stopover on a more structured bike trip. Here are some ideas: Adriabike – the Upper Adriatic cycle path

Adriabike – cycle path of the Upper Adriatic.

This itinerary is part of the Eurovelo 8 network of European cycling paths connecting Kranjska Gora to Ravenna and passing through Capodistria, Trieste, Venice and Padua.

The entire route is divided into different sections, each of which can make a one-week cycling holiday with daily stops. Here is a selection of them:

The Emerald Green Way (360 km) starts in Tarvisio, crosses Slovenia along the Isonzo River and arrives first in Muggia and then in Trieste.

The Serenissima Way (358.2 km) starts in Portorose, crosses our territory and then reaches Venice and its lagoon.

We also note that from July 2 to October 2, 2021, a free bus service with a bicycle trailer is available, which includes a daily Trieste-Parenzo ticket connecting the cycle paths of Friuli Venezia Giulia to Parenzana – that is, the stretch from Portorose to Trieste following an old railway line – or a return to Trieste for an opportunity to tour the coasts of Trieste and Istria by bike.

Eurovelo 9 – the Amber Route

An 1870 km route for a bike holiday that starts in Gdansk, Poland, with a destination of Pula, Croatia, passing through the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia and Trieste as the only Italian stop. These lands have an Austrian past, so history and nature intertwine in an extremely interesting journey.

The itinerary is called the ‘Amber Route’, as the same road was used to export Baltic amber southwards.

Bike holidays: where to sleep in Trieste

Our facility offers reserved spaces for our guests to leave their bikes in the internal courtyard of the building.

This way, you can visit the city centre and enjoy your stay without worrying about your bicycles.

Cycling holidays offer the freedom of movement and the charm of travel.
