Once less known to tourists, now an essential stop if you want to experience the genuine Carso.<\/p>\n

Food tradition<\/h2>\n

Osmiza is a place of Carso’s tradition, not a restaurant or an ‘agritourism’ stop<\/strong> , but a private home that, since the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, has been opened to customers for a limited time<\/strong> to sell homemade cured meats and dairy cheeses<\/strong>, prepared according to a tradition passed down from generation to generation, and accompanied by white or red wine, eggs and perhaps vegetables from the garden preserved in oil.<\/p>\n

But Osmiza is also about being together<\/strong>, in courtyards sparsely furnished with wooden tables and benches, with the Carso behind you and perhaps the sea in the background.<\/p>\n

You will find tables singing songs with a guitar, children running around, old people playing cards, and someone relaxing after a long walk. It is a place of community.<\/p>\n

Frasca: where and when to go to Osmiza<\/h2>\n

You can experience this all year round: every Osmiza opens for a limited period, but you will always find at least one open. Spring and autumn are the best periods because you can sit outside, maybe after a nice trip exploring the Carso’s nature.<\/p>\n

Osmizas are scattered throughout the Carso, and some can also be found in the more peripheral areas of the city. Finding them is easy: they are marked with frascas<\/em>, clumps of ivy attached to a wooden arrow that points the way until you reach the one outside the front door.
