Barcolana 2025: how to experience it as a spectator while staying in the heart of Trieste

The Barcolana once again transforms Trieste into the sailing capital: the 57th edition takes place from October 1 to 12, 2025, with the main regatta — the Autumn Cup — scheduled for Sunday, October 12. This year the program is especially rich: nearly 600 events spread over several days, for a festival that combines sport, entertainment, and cultural content.

At sea: what to see (and when)

If your passion is following races and performances on the water, in Trieste you will find a rich and varied program during Barcolana week:

  • Barcolana Parasailing – Eurosaf Inclusive European Championship (October 1–5): an event dedicated to paralympic sailing and the Hansa classes, with European athletes competing.
  • Barcolana Young (Optimist): young sailors in Optimist class compete, making it one of the most anticipated moments for sailing enthusiasts and the city’s waterfront audience.
  • Barcolana Nuota (powered by Honda) and Barcolana Waterpolo: open water swimming competitions and water polo matches enliven the area around Piazza Unità and the Rive..
  • Barcolana FIV Foiling Academy (6–8 October): demonstrations and trials with foil, wing, and kitesurf disciplines that provide a great show even for those watching from the shore.

The week at sea culminates, as per tradition, in the great regatta with massive participation, where boats will sail across the Gulf on the day of the Autumn Cup.

On land: shows, the Village, Borgo Cavana, and squares not to be missed

Barcolana is not only about sport: it is a citywide celebration. The Barcolana Village and the Borgo Cavana project enliven the waterfront and the Cavana district with shows, exhibitions, concerts, and guided tours — around ten events and more than fifty performances dedicated to this area, designed for those who want to enjoy the city between one event and another. All just a few steps from Residenza Le 6A!

For those attending events in the city, the most striking spots to stop by are the Rive, the Molo Audace, Piazza Unità (the venue for many water and waterfront events), and the Cavana district, which on this occasion becomes a “village,” the heart of onshore activities. In these areas, you will also find installations, musical performances, and special events designed for adult audiences and enthusiasts.

Practical tips for spectators

  • Arrive early: the busiest days are during the regatta weekend; the quays and squares fill up quickly.
  • Choose the panoramic spots along the Rive or on the Molo Audace for photos and a direct view of the bay.
  • Take advantage of the Village to find information, markets, and cultural events that often accompany the regatta days.
