Lipica and the Lipizzan Horse

Trieste is a border city that allows you to discover one of the wonders of Slovenian heritage: the Lipizzan horse.

The Lipica stud farm

The Lipica Stud Farm is the place where Lipizzan horses have been bred since 1580.

Let’s start with a curiosity. In popular imagination, the famous Lipizzan horse is white; however, its coat is predominantly gray, and it is born with a dark coat. As the foal grows, it grays due to a mutant gene. Intelligence, docility, and resilience make it suitable for high school dressage and advanced equitation figures.

To visit the stables

The Lipica Stud Farm is located just minutes from the border between Italy and Slovenia, and 13 km from Residenza Le6A. In less than half an hour, you can visit the stables, learn about their long history, cuddle with the foals, stroll along tree-lined avenues next to the areas where the broodmares graze with their young, and even attend one of the riding school performances.

When you come to Trieste, consider extending your vacation to discover our wonderful city and the surrounding area, which is full of fascinating places characterized by nature, culture, and history.
